Bagley Small Fry Shad Series
The Small Fry line featured some of the most realistic lures ever produced by any lure manufacturer. These baits were also known to fish as good as they looked. Primarily a shallow to mid depth lure, in open water, the 2" and 3" Small Fry's would outfish any hard baits you put them up against, except perhaps, a Rapala Shad Rap. Where the Diving Small Fry differed from the Shad Rap was how it handled heavy cover. I'm talking about dense treetops, gnarly stumps, and even light vegetation you would never dream about dragging the Rapala through. The design of the bill, combined with the quality of the uncommonly bouyant balsa, made for a lure that would artfully deflect away from a dangerous hangup, leaving you alertly anticipating a violent strike as it bounced off of "Big Mama's" inpenetrable lair.

The Small Fry Line was first introduced around 1979, which means there was only a very short period of time when the diving bills were not reinforced, since the strengthened lips had been introduced somewhere between 1980 and 1981. Small Fry Shads with the older lips and thru-bait construction are fairly hard to find nowadays.
